Resume Template
Google Docs has five resume templates located in the General category of the "Template Gallery." However, their resume templates do not have an "Objective" heading so be sure to add a heading for your "Objective" statement.
Objective Statement
- The more specific you can be with an objective the better.
- The statement should be one sentence or no more than two sentences.
- Use the job title the potential employer uses.
- Example: High school senior seeking an entry-level customer service position where I can apply my experience working with people.
- Example: High school senior with more than three years of experience in childcare seeking a position as a summer camp counselor.
Experiences you can add to your resume:
- Academic (Academy participation, math club, peer tutoring, AP distinction, National Merit Semi-finalist, ASB, school clubs)
- Athletics (swim, soccer, baseball, etc.)
- Community Service (charity race, volunteer at soup kitchen, park clean up)
- Cultural & Language (International food club, Latin Club, Cultural dance or music lessons)
- Journalism / Publications (school newspaper, yearbook, social media)
- Religious (missionary work, youth group, church group)
- Service Learning (tutoring others, conducting art lessons, drug prevention lessons)
- Student Government / Political Interest (ASB, Model UN, Mock Trial)
- Technology (robotics, web design)
- Work (paid positions)
- Work Based Learning (internships, shadowing, apprenticeships)
- Family Responsibilities (childcare, homework support, cooking, cleaning, yard work)
Resume Skills for High School Students
Tips
- It's beneficial to use language/keywords from the job description on your resume.
- Be sure to include any experience related to the specific position you are applying for.
